What Is Run 2?

Run 2 is the second game in the Run series, developed by Player 03 and published on March 21, 2011. You control a small gray alien sprinting through a series of floating tunnel levels set in outer space, jumping over gaps and using the gravity-flip mechanic to run on walls and ceilings when the floor runs out.

Run 2 introduced several features the original Run didn’t have. Most importantly: two playable characters from the very start — the Runner and the Skater — with genuinely different stats and feel. It also introduced 62 collectible bonus orbs spread across the levels, a progression system that unlocks harder stages, and a hidden double jump ability that only becomes available after completing 100% of the game. Run 3 came later and has a full story with many more characters — but Run 2 remains a standalone, endlessly replayable challenge with its own dedicated following.

The Gravity Flip — The Core Mechanic

This is the one thing to understand before anything else in Run 2. When your character touches a wall or ceiling tile, they “catch” onto the new surface and gravity immediately flips. The wall becomes the new floor. Your character starts running on it as though it were the ground they just left. The camera doesn’t rotate — the tunnel stays the same — but your character’s orientation has changed completely.

This mechanic is used constantly in Run 2. Many levels require you to run onto a wall to bypass a gap in the floor that would otherwise be too wide to jump across. Others require ceiling runs to bypass floor obstacles entirely. Learning to flick onto walls deliberately and land cleanly on them — rather than accidentally hitting a wall and losing control — is the key skill that separates beginners from experienced players.

How to Play Run 2 Unblocked

  1. Choose your character — Runner or Skater. Both are available immediately. (More on the differences below.)
  2. Sprint forward automatically. Your character runs forward on their own. You control lateral movement and jumping — not speed.
  3. Move left and right to position yourself on the tunnel tiles.
  4. Jump to cross gaps. Timing matters — jump too early and you overshoot the landing, too late and you fall.
  5. Run onto walls to flip gravity when the floor has gaps too wide to jump. Flicking to the wall keeps you in the run when the floor is gone.
  6. Collect bonus orbs (white spheres) when they appear in levels. These unlock extra levels and contribute toward the secret double jump ability.
  7. Reach the end of each level to advance to the next. If you fall off the tunnel, the level resets and you start that level from the beginning.

The Two Characters — Runner vs Skater

Both characters are available from the moment you start Run 2 — no unlocking required. They have genuinely different stats that change how the game plays:

The Runner

The Runner is slightly slower than the Skater but has better maneuverability and sideways movement on the ground. She makes precise, controlled jumps and is better at small, accurate movements. If you’re learning the layouts for the first time, the Runner’s control advantage means you can correct positioning mistakes more easily. She’s the safer, more forgiving character — but she has her own specific set of levels designed around her slower, more precise style.

The Skater

The Skater is much faster and jumps further than the Runner, but is significantly harder to control. His momentum carries further, which makes precision positioning more demanding. Landing exactly where you want after a big jump takes practice. The Skater has his own level set that’s designed around his higher speed and jump range — levels that would be easy with the Runner’s control become genuinely challenging at his pace. The Skater is the character for players who want a speed challenge.

Critically: progress saves separately for each character. Levels completed and bonuses collected as the Runner don’t count toward the Skater, and vice versa. You’re essentially playing two separate playthroughs simultaneously.

Levels and Bonus Orbs

Run 2 has 62 levels in total across both character tracks. Levels are numbered progressively and get harder as you advance. The difficulty milestones:

  • Easy — 5 Runner levels + 5 Skater levels completed
  • Hard — 52 levels completed
  • Bonus levels — unlocked by collecting bonus orbs during regular levels
  • Full completion — all regular and bonus levels completed, all 62 bonus orbs collected

Bonus orbs are white spheres that appear in specific spots within levels. There are 62 in total to find across all Runner and Skater levels. Collecting them does two things: unlocks bonus levels (which are harder, extra stages beyond the main 62), and contributes toward the secret double jump ability. Each orb is tied to a specific level and character — an orb collected as the Runner doesn’t count for the Skater’s total.

The Secret Double Jump

Run 2 has a hidden ability that most players never discover. To unlock it:

  1. Complete all Runner levels — both regular and bonus levels
  2. Complete all Skater levels — both regular and bonus levels
  3. Collect all 62 bonus orbs across both characters

Once all three conditions are met, go to the pause menu and click the small ‘?’ button to activate the double jump. Pressing the jump key a second time while airborne triggers a second jump in mid-air. This opens up new approaches to every level and allows you to beat stages without gravity-flipping at all — it’s a legitimate reward for completing 100% of the game. Activating the ‘?’ button again keeps the double jump active but returns the character to their normal model.

Cross-Character Unlocking

Completing all levels and collecting all 62 bonuses on both characters also unlocks the ability to play the Runner’s levels as the Skater, and the Skater’s levels as the Runner. Combining the Skater’s speed with the Runner’s level layouts creates a completely different challenge than either character’s intended track. It’s essentially a third playthrough option that emerges from 100% completion.

Run 2 vs Run 1 vs Run 3

  • Run 1 — The original. 50 levels, Runner only. The most straightforward entry and where the mechanics started.
  • Run 2 — Two characters from the start, 62 levels, bonus orbs, secret double jump. The most mechanically complete of the original two games. Non-canon to the Run 3 story.
  • Run 3 — The massive sequel. 309 playable levels across 21 level sets, multiple characters to unlock, a full story told through cutscenes, and an Infinite Mode. A substantially bigger game, but Run 2’s tighter structure and dual-character design give it a different kind of appeal.

Tips and Tricks

  • Learn the gravity flip deliberately. Don’t avoid walls — use them. Practicing flicking onto a wall and landing cleanly on the new “floor” is the single most important skill in Run 2. Most mid-game levels require deliberate wall runs.
  • Start with the Runner, switch to Skater later. The Runner’s better maneuverability makes learning level layouts easier. Once you know what’s coming in a level, the Skater’s speed feels rewarding rather than punishing.
  • Look ahead, not at your character. The tunnel scrolls fast enough that reacting to gaps as they arrive under your feet is already too late. Keep your eyes a second or two ahead of your character’s current position.
  • Short jumps beat big jumps for precision. When you need to land exactly on a tile, a small tap of the jump key gives you much more control over landing position than a full jump. Reserve full jumps for wide gaps.
  • Collect every orb you see immediately. Don’t plan to “come back for the orb on a second run” — you’ll forget, and the bonus level count matters. If an orb is visible, take it now even if the path is slightly riskier.
  • The Skater’s jump distance is a tool, not just a side effect. The Skater can clear gaps the Runner would need a wall run for. On the Skater’s level set, many sections that look like they require gravity flipping can actually be jumped directly with a well-timed full jump.
  • Resets are fast — use them. Falling resets the current level only, not your overall progress. If you’re trying a risky orb route and it fails, the restart is near-instant. Experimentation is low-cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Run 2?

A free browser space platformer by Player 03, published March 21, 2011. You control an alien running through 62 tunnel levels in space, using gravity flips and precise jumps to avoid falling into the void.

Who made Run 2?

Player 03 (also written Player_03), the developer of the entire Run series including Run 3.

How many levels are in Run 2?

62 levels in total across both character tracks, plus additional bonus levels unlocked by collecting the 62 hidden bonus orbs scattered throughout the game.

What is the gravity flip mechanic?

When your character touches a wall or ceiling tile, they catch onto that surface and gravity flips — the wall becomes the new floor. This is used throughout Run 2 to cross gaps and navigate complex tunnel sections.

What is the difference between Runner and Skater?

Runner: slower, better sideways maneuverability, more precise jumps — ideal for beginners and precision play. Skater: much faster, jumps further, harder to control — for players who want a speed challenge. Both are available from the start. Progress saves separately for each.

What are the bonus orbs for?

The 62 white bonus orbs scattered across levels unlock extra bonus levels when collected, and collecting all 62 across both characters is required to unlock the secret double jump ability.

What is the double jump and how do I unlock it?

A mid-air second jump ability activated through the ‘?’ button in the pause menu. To unlock it, you must complete all regular and bonus levels for both characters AND collect all 62 bonus orbs. It’s the reward for 100% completing the game.

Does Run 2 connect to the Run 3 story?

No. Run 2 is officially non-canon to the Run 3 story. Run 3 has its own narrative with cutscenes and multiple named characters — Run 2 is a standalone game from before that story was developed.

Can I play Run 3 after Run 2?

Yes — Run 3 is the expanded sequel with 309 levels, multiple characters, a full storyline, and Infinite Mode. Run 2 is a good introduction to the mechanics before tackling Run 3’s larger scope.

Why isn’t Run 2 loading?

Check your connection, make sure the site isn’t blocked, and try disabling ad blockers. Run 2 is an older Flash-era game that has been ported to HTML5 for browser play — if loading issues persist, try a different browser or switch to Chrome.
